  1. Oh wow. That Charlie Rich brought tears immediately. I feel like Mexico is my home, but leaving in two weeks for a 6 week tour of relatives and friends in the states: Wyoming, Missouri, Minnesota, Alabama. Those people are home more than the place is now.

  2. Who knew what pantechnicon meant? New word for me. Wonder if I’ll remember it when I need it. My favorite “home” song is “Fly Away Home.” I heard it sung by a young Central American man in a singing workshop i was in and it was so plaintive. He was, with many other Mexican, Central and South American men, separated from his loved ones as he worked in the U.S. to send money back to them. I never hear the song without thinking of him and wondering if he made it back home or if they made it to the states to join him. I love your “Home” songs as well. Going to listen to more now.

  3. My father really liked Charlie Rich but I, as a teenager, thought he was stale and too old fashioned. However, I listened – really listened – to the song you posted, and I see that my father was on to something. I hadn’t heard Charlie Rich in YEARS, and was surprised to learn his voice is rich and moving and not at all stale. Thanks for expanding my horizons once again. 🙂
